Now I know what Cortez must have felt like when he came to the New World. My visit to the state of Tamaulipas, Mexico, home of Boulder's newest sister city, Mante, revealed a treasure chest of exotic plants, animals and historic features that rival any place that I've been to. Within an hour's drive it is possible to swim in spring-fed lakes or explore petrocliffs in vast networks of caves. Drive just a bit further and you reach the trail heads that lead to the northernmost cloud forest in the Americas. Like Colorado, the state of Tamaulipas is blessed with rich natural beauty.
